Hire Python and Django developers

Hire Python Developers for Reliable Django Back Ends

RED SAG assigns dedicated Python and Django developers from Tamil Nadu, India, to product teams in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada and India. They build and maintain the server side of your product: data models, REST APIs, background jobs, admin tools and the integrations that hold everything together. If you are choosing between offshore Python developers from a marketplace and a team, the difference is continuity: when you hire Python developers in India from us, the same person works on your code every day and reports to you directly.

Django is often chosen because it gets a product to market fast, and the same features that make it quick can make it slow later: N+1 queries hidden behind the ORM, fat views, migrations nobody dares to squash and Celery queues that silently back up. We look for developers who know where those problems come from and fix them without breaking what already works.

Hire a Django developer full time, part time or by the hour, or give us a defined back-end build at a fixed price. If your service needs a lightweight async API alongside Django, our developers can build it with FastAPI. You can begin with a one-week paid pilot on a real ticket before committing to a month.

What they build

What our Django developers build for you

REST and GraphQL APIs

Versioned APIs with Django REST Framework or Graphene, with serializers that validate input, permission classes per role, throttling, pagination and OpenAPI docs generated by drf-spectacular.

Internal tools on Django admin

Operations and back-office screens built by extending Django admin with custom actions, filters, inlines and audit history, so staff get a working tool in days instead of a separate front-end project.

Background jobs and scheduled work

Celery or RQ workers on Redis or RabbitMQ for emails, report generation, imports and webhooks, with retries, idempotent tasks, Celery Beat schedules and monitoring through Flower.

Multi-tenant SaaS back ends

Tenant isolation by schema with django-tenants or by a tenant column with scoped querysets, plus subscription billing through Stripe or Razorpay and per-tenant settings.

Data pipelines and reporting

Imports from CSV, Excel and third-party APIs using pandas, cleaning and reconciliation steps, and reporting endpoints that aggregate in PostgreSQL instead of looping in Python.

Async services with FastAPI

Small, fast services for webhooks, file processing or AI model calls, built with FastAPI and Pydantic, sharing auth and data with the main Django application.

Seniority

Junior, mid-level or senior

Pick the level that matches the work. Many teams pair one senior developer with a junior or mid-level developer to keep costs down without losing review quality.

Junior

1–3 years

Adds endpoints, models and admin screens inside an established project, with code review from a senior.

  • Write models, migrations and DRF serializers for well-defined tickets
  • Add admin views, filters and management commands
  • Write pytest tests for the endpoints they build
  • Fix bugs reported from staging or production logs

Mid-level

3–6 years

Delivers complete back-end features and keeps an eye on query cost and data integrity.

  • Design data models and API contracts for a feature with the front-end team
  • Build Celery tasks and third-party integrations with proper retries
  • Find and remove slow queries using select_related, prefetch_related and indexes
  • Review pull requests and keep migrations clean

Senior

6+ years

Owns back-end architecture, upgrades and production reliability.

  • Plan Django and Python version upgrades and dependency clean-ups
  • Decide when a piece of work belongs in Django, a worker or a separate FastAPI service
  • Set up observability, error tracking and database performance reviews
  • Guide other developers on security settings, permissions and testing
Quality

Common Python & Django problems our developers avoid

N+1 queries behind the ORM

A serializer that touches a related field on every row can turn one request into hundreds of queries. Our developers check query counts with django-debug-toolbar or assertNumQueries and fix them with select_related and prefetch_related.

Tasks that are not safe to retry

Celery tasks that charge a card or send an email twice when retried cause real damage. We design tasks to be idempotent, pass IDs rather than model instances, and use transaction.on_commit so a task never runs before its data exists.

Business logic scattered across views and signals

Logic hidden in signals and duplicated between views and serializers is hard to test and easy to break. We keep it in plain service functions or model methods that tests can call directly.

Risky migrations on large tables

Adding a non-null column or index to a big PostgreSQL table can lock it during deploy. Developers split such changes into safe steps and use concurrent index creation where the database supports it.

Engagement

Ways to hire

Four ways to work with our Django developers, and when each one makes sense for Python & Django work.

Full-time dedicated developer

One developer works only on your product, around 160 hours a month, inside your tools and sprint rhythm.

Best when your product runs on Django and there is a continuing stream of API work, integrations and data changes to deliver alongside your own team.

Fixed monthly fee, invoiced monthly

Part-time dedicated developer

The same developer every week for about 80 hours a month, usually half days or agreed days.

Suits an established Django application that needs regular upgrades, security patches, small endpoints and help with production issues.

Fixed monthly fee for the agreed hours

Hourly

Pay only for tracked hours against tickets you raise. Hours and task notes are shared with every invoice.

Good for a query performance review, a Django version upgrade assessment, debugging a stuck Celery queue or reviewing a pull request.

Tracked hours, invoiced monthly

Fixed-price project

A written scope, a fixed quote and milestones. We carry the estimate risk; changes are quoted before they are built.

Works for a defined piece such as a DRF API from an agreed spec, a data import tool or an admin back office with known screens.

Milestone payments against an agreed scope

Vetting

How we vet and assign Django developers

Technical interview

A senior engineer on our side interviews every developer on the stack you are hiring for, covering the topics listed on this page, before they are put forward to any client.

Review of real work

We read code the developer has written, from our own projects or their earlier work, looking at structure, naming, tests and how they handle errors, not just whether it runs.

Practical trial task

A short task in the same stack, done in a real repository and reviewed like a pull request. It shows how someone works, asks questions and writes up what they did.

Matched to your brief

We put forward the developer whose experience fits your product and time zone, share a short profile, and you interview them yourself before anything is signed.

What the Python & Django interview covers

  • How the ORM builds queries, and how to find and fix N+1 problems
  • Designing DRF serializers, viewsets and permission classes for multi-role access
  • Celery task design: retries, idempotency, transactions and monitoring
  • Django security settings, CSRF, authentication and handling secrets
  • Writing pytest tests with fixtures and factories instead of brittle test data

The trial task

Extend a small Django project with a DRF endpoint that lists and filters orders for the logged-in user, a Celery task that exports them to CSV, and tests that assert both the output and the number of queries. We review the pull request, the migration and the short write-up of choices made.

Onboarding

How onboarding works

  1. 01

    Call and NDA

A short call about your product, stack and team. We sign your NDA, or ours, before you share code, designs or business details.

  2. 02

    Profile and interview

We share the profile of the developer we recommend and you interview them. A match usually takes about a week, depending on availability.

  3. 03

    Contract and IP

The contract assigns all code and work product to you once invoices are paid, and sets out rates, hours, notice and confidentiality.

  4. 04

    Access through your tools

You invite the developer to your GitHub or GitLab, Jira or Linear, and Slack or Teams. You control access and can revoke it at any time.

  5. 05

    Updates you can rely on

A written update at the end of every working day, a weekly summary with hours, what shipped and what is blocked, and a demo when you want one.

The developer's first week

  • Set up the project with Docker or a local virtualenv, load sample data and run the full test suite
  • Read the models, settings split, URL structure and Celery configuration, and list open questions
  • Ship a small real ticket through your review process and CI pipeline
  • Write a short note on risks found, such as slow queries, missing tests or outdated dependencies
Time zones

Working hours overlap

Our team is in India (IST, UTC+5:30). These are the overlap windows we plan around; the exact hours are agreed in the contract.

United Kingdom

Our normal day (9:00–18:00 IST) covers roughly 9:00 am to 12:30 pm in London in winter and 9:00 am to 1:30 pm in summer. A developer working 11:00–20:00 IST can cover until about 2:30 pm GMT.

USA and Canada (Eastern)

On a shifted schedule the developer is online for about 9:00 am to noon Eastern (New York, Toronto), enough for stand-up, reviews and questions. Work carries on overnight and is ready in your morning.

USA and Canada (Pacific)

For California or Vancouver we agree a fixed early window, typically 7:00–9:00 am Pacific, plus written hand-offs at the end of your day. We are open that overlap is shorter here.

Australia

India is 4.5 to 5.5 hours behind Sydney and Melbourne, so our normal day overlaps your afternoon, roughly 1:30–5:30 pm AEST. Perth overlaps from about 11:30 am onwards.

Low-risk start

Try before you commit

Start with a one-week paid pilot

Before committing to a month, you can start with a one-week paid pilot. The developer works on a real ticket from your backlog, in your repository and tools, with the same daily updates as a normal engagement. At the end you decide whether to continue, change developer or stop. The pilot is billed at the hourly rate for the hours worked, and the code is yours.

Replacement if it is not a fit

If the developer is not the right fit, tell us and we will replace the developer at no extra charge. The new developer is briefed from the shared notes and tickets, and we overlap the hand-over where we can so you do not lose momentum.

FAQ

Hiring Django developers: questions

How much does it cost to hire a Django developer from India?

Indicatively, a full-time dedicated Python and Django developer from RED SAG costs about $1,700–3,500 a month depending on seniority, and hourly work is about $15–30 an hour. The rates table on this page shows the same ranges in GBP, AUD, CAD and INR. The final rate is agreed in writing before work begins.

Do your developers work with Django REST Framework or FastAPI?

Both. Django REST Framework is our default for APIs that live inside a Django project, because it reuses your models, auth and admin. FastAPI makes sense for small async services such as webhook receivers or AI model wrappers. We will recommend one for your case rather than adding a second framework without a reason.

Can a Django developer help with data work and scripts?

Yes, within reason. Our Django developers regularly write import scripts, pandas transformations, scheduled reports and management commands. If you need deep data engineering, such as warehouse modelling or streaming pipelines, tell us early so we can be honest about whether that fits the person we assign.

Can you upgrade an old Django project?

Yes. We start by running the test suite, checking deprecation warnings and listing packages that block the upgrade. Then we move one supported version at a time, usually to the current LTS release, fixing warnings along the way so each step can be deployed and checked on its own.

How quickly can a Django developer start?

Usually within a week, depending on availability and how closely your stack, such as PostgreSQL, Celery or a particular cloud, matches the developer's experience. If the best match is a week or two away, we tell you that rather than rushing someone less suited onto your project.

What if the Django developer is not the right fit?

Let us know what is not working. We will replace the developer at no extra charge and hand over through the shared tickets, notes and repository history. The one-week paid pilot is also a low-risk way to test the fit before a monthly commitment.

Who owns the code and data?

You do. Code is committed to your repository from the first day, the contract assigns the work product to you once invoices are paid, and your production database stays in your own cloud account. We sign an NDA before you share any code or business details.
